Why do we do it?

At a time when many families rely upon the provision of a free school meal to supplement their budget it is obvious that school holidays and the lack of this essential provision puts an already challenged family under even more pressure.

Those of us who have parented know only too well how school holidays can be a strain. However, especially for families on low budgets, the squeeze on their already limited resources can be massive.

Finding extra food is one thing but also providing safe, fun activity can also be a stress. As children return to school after the holidays, they want to be able to tell a story about what they did and how much fun they had.

FILLING THE GAP can help to do both.

  • We can relieve some of the pressure on families who are over-stretched by providing food

  • We can provide children with fun and a ‘story to tell’

  • We can help parents who struggle with how to make holiday times fun by showing them a different way to interact with their children

  • We can promote ‘community’ by involving families and others

We have hosted a number of events helping churches to develop a FILLING THE GAP  programme and are happy to talk to any others who feel that they can offer this ministry to their community.

We have put together a Resource Pack with all the documents and forms you need to run a Filling the Gap programme. You can adapt these for you church and re-brand with your own name and details. They are in both Word & PDF format

Check out our album of photos of children having fun in the holidays and read what some of them said.
